Bugs Found in Pilot: Group Trip Planner for iOS

Pilot: Group Trip Planner

5.0

Pilot is an interactive trip-planning and booking application designed for both individual and group travel. Users can plan shared travel routes, coordinate activities on maps, and manage multiple bookings and documents, such as flights and hotel reservations.

The app offers an interactive platform that supports real-time collaboration with friends, offline access to plans, and the convenience of booking accommodation directly. Together, these features make travel planning effortless and hassle-free.

The QAwerk team conducted a bug crawl of the Pilot app, and our overall verdict is that it has a modern, visually appealing interface, intuitive navigation, and useful features for planning and organizing trips. The AI-generated itineraries and accommodation recommendations are particularly helpful. However, we found a few UI bugs and issues that affect the user experience. Take a look at our detailed report below.

Hotel can be saved with ‘Check-out’ date earlier than ‘Check-in’ date

Severity:

Major

Precondition:

A trip with an added hotel exists.

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Edit a hotel.
  2. Set the ‘Check-in’ value to a future date.
  3. Set the ‘Check-out’ value to an earlier date.
  4. Save the hotel.
  5. Observe the saved hotel details.
Environment:

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS version 26.6

Actual Result:

The hotel is successfully saved with the ‘Check-out’ date earlier than the ‘Check-in ’ date.

Expected Result:

The app should prevent saving an invalid stay period. The ‘Check-out’ date must be set later than the ‘Check-in’ date, and an appropriate validation message should be displayed.

Severity:

Major

Precondition:

A trip with a defined date range and destination exists.

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Open an existing trip.
  2. Tap the ‘Calendar’ icon next to the destination.
  3. Select dates outside the overall trip date range.
  4. Save the changes.
  5. Observe the destination and trip dates.
Environment:

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS version 26.6

Actual Result:

The app lets users select and save destination dates outside the overall trip date range without validation. The overall trip dates remain unchanged, and the hotel ‘Check-in’/’Check-out’ dates are not updated accordingly, resulting in inconsistent itinerary dates.

Expected Result:

The app should restrict destination dates to the overall trip date range or display appropriate validation. If changing destination dates outside the trip range is supported, the app should ensure consistency between the trip, destination, and accommodation dates or prompt the user to review affected dates.

Itinerary days are not updated after changing trip dates

Severity:

Major

Precondition:

An existing trip with a defined date range and generated itinerary exists.

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Open an existing trip.
  2. Click the ‘Three dots’ icon to open the menu in the top right corner.
  3. Tap the ‘Edit trip’ option.
  4. Update the trip’s dates.
  5. Save the changes.
  6. Review the trip details and itinerary days.
Environment:

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS version 26.6

Actual Result:

The main trip date range is updated to the newly selected dates, but the destination dates and existing itinerary days remain assigned to the previous dates. This results in inconsistent date information within the trip.

Expected Result:

After changing the trip dates, the destination and itinerary days should update to reflect the new trip period. Existing activities should be rescheduled or handled appropriately.

‘Request a new one’ and ‘I've already verified my email’ buttons are unresponsive on ‘Verification Sent’ screen

Severity:

Major

Precondition:

The user is on the email verification screen after requesting a verification email.

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Start the email verification process.
  2. Navigate to the email verification screen.
  3. Tap the ‘Request a new one’ button.
  4. Observe the result.
  5. Tap the ‘I’ve already verified my email’ button.
  6. Observe the result.
Environment:

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS version 26.6

Actual Result:

Nothing happens when tapping either button. No confirmation, loading indicator, or error message appears, leaving the user unsure whether the actions were triggered.

Expected Result:

After tapping the button, the app should produce a consistent result. For the ‘Request a new one’ option, it should request a new verification email and provide appropriate feedback. If resending is temporarily restricted, the app should clearly communicate the restriction.
When the user taps the ‘I’ve already verified my email’ button, the app should check the user’s email verification status and proceed if verified or display an appropriate message if verification is still pending.

‘Start from scratch’ button changes to ‘Build my trip’ when entering only spaces

Severity:

Minor

Precondition:

The user is logged in to the app.

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Start creating a new trip.
  2. Navigate to the screen with the ‘Start from scratch’ button.
  3. Enter only spaces in the text input field.
  4. Observe the button label.
Environment:

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS version 26.6

Actual Result:

The button label changes from ‘Start from scratch’ to ‘Build my trip’, even though the input contains only whitespace.

Expected Result:

The app should treat whitespace-only input as empty, and the button should remain ‘Start from scratch’ until meaningful text is entered.

Hotel location displays as ‘Not available’ in itinerary despite location information being available

Severity:

Minor

Precondition:

A trip containing hotel recommendations has been generated.

Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Open a trip with recommended hotels.
  2. Locate a hotel displaying ‘Not available’ next to the location icon.
  3. Open the hotel details.
  4. Observe the hotel’s location information.
Environment:

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS version 26.6

Actual Result:

The hotel location is displayed as ‘Not available’ on the itinerary card, although location information is available in the hotel details and on the linked booking page.

Expected Result:

The hotel location should be displayed consistently across the itinerary and hotel details when location information is available.

While I tested Pilot, I discovered some issues with date validation and synchronization between trips, destinations, and itinerary days, as well as input validation. I recommend thorough UI testing and providing clearer error messages and user feedback to improve the overall experience.
