Bugs Found in Fig: AI Agents & Automation for Android
Fig is an AI agent that turns plain-language requests into finished work, right from your iPhone or iPad. You describe what you need, and Fig researches topics, builds websites, and creates slide decks, videos, music, and podcasts.
You can also use Fig to design your own custom agents, connect tools like Gmail, Notion, and Slack, and schedule tasks that run while you’re away. With a choice of leading AI models and a hands-free voice agent, Fig makes it easy for anyone to go from idea to result in a single conversation.
We conducted a bug crawl of Fig as part of our weekly exploration. The app’s main features deliver a solid user experience and can help the user in a wide range of ways. However, a few bugs interfere with the experience. Check out our detailed report and QA engineer’s recommendations below.
Presentation page displays white screen after returning from background mode
Critical
The user is logged into the account.
- Open the app.
- Open the side menu.
- Click the ‘New chat’ button.
- Click the ‘Create slide’ button.
- Select a slide style (e.g., ‘Premium Futuristic’).
- Enter a description for the slide deck (e.g., ‘New technology’).
- Click the ‘Send’ button.
- Wait for the presentation to be generated.
- Open the generated presentation.
- Collapse the app.
- Wait for 5 minutes.
- Return to the app from the background.
Device: Xiaomi Mi 10
Android 13 TKQ1.221114.001
Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.1.0.
After returning to the app from background mode, the presentation page displays a blank white screen instead of the generated slides.
When returning from background mode, the presentation page should display the generated slides immediately.
Image generation fails when Claude model is selected for chat despite ‘Auto’ image model setting
Critical
The user is logged into the account.
- Open the app.
- Open the side menu.
- Click the ‘New chat’ button.
- Click the model selector in the input field.
- Select a Claude model (e.g., Fable 5.1).
- Click the ‘Create image’ button.
- Select any style (e.g., ‘Animal Infographic’).
- Check that the image model is set to ‘Auto’.
- Enter a prompt (e.g., ‘Test’).
- Click the ‘Send’ button.
Device: Xiaomi Mi 10
Android 13 TKQ1.221114.001
Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.1.0.
After sending the prompt, the image is not generated, and Fig displays a generic error message: ‘I hit a problem generating this response. Please try again — and if it keeps happening, try a different model.’ The ‘Auto’ image model setting does not take effect while a Claude model is selected for chat, and the error does not explain which model causes the failure.
Note: The bug reproduces when a Claude model is selected for chat.
When the image model is set to ‘Auto’, the image should be generated with a suitable image model regardless of the model selected for chat.
Incorrect image displayed upon selection in carousel
Major
The user is logged into the account.
- Open the app.
- Open the side menu.
- Click the ‘New chat’ button.
- Click the model selector in the input field.
- Select the ‘Fig’ model.
- Enter the prompt ‘Generate 4 images: a CEO, a nurse, a software engineer, a cleaner.’
- Click the ‘Send’ button.
- Wait for the images to be generated.
- Click the second image in the carousel.
Device: Xiaomi Mi 10
Android 13 TKQ1.221114.001
Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.1.0.
After 4 images are generated, clicking on the second, third, or fourth image in the carousel opens the first image instead of the selected one.
Clicking on any image in the carousel should open the selected image.
Generated presentation slides do not open and display cropped content after clicking
Major
The user is logged into the account.
- Open the app.
- Open the side menu.
- Click the ‘New chat’ button.
- Click the ‘Create slide’ button.
- Select a slide style (e.g., ‘Premium Futuristic’).
- Enter a description for the slide deck (e.g., ‘New technology’).
- Click the ‘Send’ button.
- Wait for the presentation to be generated.
- Open the generated presentation.
- Click on any slide.
Device: Xiaomi Mi 10
Android 13 TKQ1.221114.001
Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.1.0.
The generated slides display correctly in the presentation preview. After clicking any slide, it does not open. Instead, the page content gets cropped: text, cards, and metrics are partially cut off or disappear, leaving large blank areas.
Clicking on a slide should open it in full view with all content displayed correctly.
Email automation is registered as active even though access to Gmail was not granted
Major
- The user is logged into the account.
- Gmail is not connected to Fig.
- Open the app.
- Open the side menu.
- Click the ‘New chat’ button.
- Start the email automation setup.
- Click the ‘Send’ button.
- Wait for the ‘Connect Gmail’ card to appear.
- Click the ‘Skip for now’ button.
- Wait for the response to be generated.
Device: Xiaomi Mi 10
Android 13 TKQ1.221114.001
Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.1.0.
After skipping the Gmail connection, Fig continues the setup and reports that the scheduled task ‘Daily Email Automation Check’ is registered and active, with the ‘Enabled’ status and the next run scheduled. The task cannot access the mailbox because Gmail is not connected.
Without Gmail access, the email automation feature should stay inactive, with a status indicating that a Gmail connection is required until the user connects the account.
Unable to upload Google Docs and Google Sheets files from Drive Picker, while DOCX and XLSX files can be uploaded
Major
- The user is logged into the account.
- Log in to your Google account on the device.
- Google Drive must contain DOCX, XLSX, Google Docs, and Google Sheets files.
- Open the app.
- Open the side menu.
- Click the ‘New chat’ button.
- Click the ‘+’ button.
- Click the ‘File’ button.
- Select ‘Drive’.
- Try to select the Google Docs or Google Sheets file.
Device: Xiaomi Mi 10
Android 13 TKQ1.221114.001
Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.1.0.
DOCX and XLSX files are uploaded to the chat successfully, while Google Docs and Google Sheets files in the Drive picker are greyed out and cannot be selected.
All file types, including Google Docs and Google Sheets, should be available for upload from Google Drive.
‘Branch from here’ and ‘Retry’ options under ‘...’ button are inaccessible in portrait orientation
Major
- The user is logged into the account.
- A scheduled task is created via chat (e.g., an email automation).
- Open the app.
- Open the side menu.
- Open the chat with the created scheduled task.
- Hold the device in portrait orientation.
- Scroll down to the action buttons under the Fig response.
- Rotate the device to landscape orientation.
- Click the ‘…’ button under the Fig response.
Device: Xiaomi Mi 10
Android 13 TKQ1.221114.001
Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.1.0.
In portrait orientation, the ‘…’ button is missing from the action buttons under the Fig response. Instead, a cut-off element extends beyond the right edge of the screen, so the ‘Branch from here’ and ‘Retry’ options cannot be accessed. In landscape orientation, the ‘…’ button is displayed and opens the menu with these options.
The ‘…’ button with the ‘Branch from here’ and ‘Retry’ options should be available under the response in both portrait and landscape orientation.
Chat counter on ‘Projects’ page shows ‘0’ when project contains one chat
Minor
The user is logged into the account.
- Open the app.
- Open the side menu.
- Click the ‘Projects’ button.
- Click the ‘+’ button.
- Enter the project name.
- Click the ‘Create’ button.
- Open the created project.
- Click the ‘New chat’ button.
- Enter any prompt.
- Click the ‘Send’ button.
- Wait for the response to be generated.
- Open the side menu.
- Click the ‘Projects’ button.
- Check the chat counter on the created project card.
Device: Xiaomi Mi 10
Android 13 TKQ1.221114.001
Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.1.0.
After creating a chat inside a project, the project card on the ‘Projects’ page shows ‘0 chats’, while the project contains 1 chat.
The chat counter on the project card should show the actual number of chats in the project.
Model selector pop-up is cut off on screen and cannot be scrolled
Minor
The user is logged into the account.
- Open the app.
- Click the model selector in the input field.
- Click the ‘Model’ block.
- Scroll down the list of models.
Device: Xiaomi Mi 10
Android 13 TKQ1.221114.001
Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.1.0.
After clicking on the model selector, the pop-up opens almost entirely below the bottom edge of the screen, and only the ‘Model’ header is partially visible. After clicking the ‘Model’ block, the list of models expands, but the ‘See more’ button is still cut off at the bottom of the screen, and the list cannot be scrolled.
The model selector pop-up should fit within the screen or be scrollable, so that all models and the ‘See more’ button are accessible.
Each click on ‘Profile’ button opens new instance of ‘Profile’ page
Minor
The user is logged into the account.
- Open the app.
- Open the side menu.
- Click the ‘Profile’ icon.
- Click the ‘Profile’ icon.
- Click the ‘Profile’ icon.
- Swipe left to close the side menu.
- Click the ‘Cross’ button.
Device: Xiaomi Mi 10
Android 13 TKQ1.221114.001
Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.1.0.
Each click on the ‘Profile’ icon opens a new instance of the ‘Profile’ page. After clicking the ‘Cross’ button, the ‘Profile’ page remains open. It closes only after clicking the ‘Cross’ button as many times as the profile icon was clicked.
Repeated clicks on the ‘Profile’ icon should keep a single instance of the ‘Profile’ page open, and one click of the ‘Cross’ button should close it.
Presentation slide images jump while scrolling
Minor
The user is logged into the account.
- Open the app.
- Open the side menu.
- Click the ‘New chat’ button.
- Click the ‘Create slide’ button.
- Select a slide style (e.g., ‘Premium Futuristic’).
- Enter a description for the slide deck (e.g., ‘New technology’).
- Click the ‘Send’ button.
- Wait for the presentation to be generated.
- Open the generated presentation.
- Scroll down the page with the slides.
Device: Xiaomi Mi 10
Android 13 TKQ1.221114.001
Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.1.0.
While scrolling the presentation page, the slide images jump instead of moving smoothly with the page.
Slide images should stay in place within their slides and move smoothly together with the page while scrolling.
Text cursor overlaps first letter of placeholder text in input field
Trivial
The user is logged into the account.
- Open the app.
- Open the side menu.
- Click the ‘New chat’ button.
- Enter any prompt (e.g., ‘Testing the Fig app’).
- Click the ‘Send’ button.
- Wait for the response to be generated.
- Click on the input field.
Device: Xiaomi Mi 10
Android 13 TKQ1.221114.001
Xiaomi HyperOS 1.0.1.0.
When the input field is focused, the text cursor is displayed over the first letter of the placeholder text ‘Write a python script to parse JS…’.
The text cursor should be displayed before the placeholder text without overlapping it.
During testing, I identified several bugs, including a white screen on the presentation page after returning from the background, failed image generation via the Claude model, and an email automation registered as active without Gmail access. To improve the app’s stability, I recommend running functional regression testing of the core creative and automation flows alongside non-functional checks of the app lifecycle and screen orientation, adding integration testing for connectors, and applying QAwerk's proven practice of combining exploratory sessions with Appium-based end-to-end automation on real devices.
