Bugs Found in Chop Mania: Idle Cut Factory for iOS

Chop Mania: Idle Cut Factory

4.8

If you are fond of original idle games, Chop Mania is a great option to try. The game is indeed focused on chopping and upgrading your blade to do it better. You can also unlock various power boosts to improve your cuts further.

The game is relaxing, and the gameplay holds up well. We verified it during our recent bug crawl. But our engineers also discovered a few issues, with the most prominent one giving players an unearned reward in in-game currency. Take a look at a detailed breakdown of our discoveries below.

User receives in-game currency reward without completing Discord authentication

Severity:

Major

Precondition:
  1. The user has launched the game and has not claimed the Discord login reward.
Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Launch the game.
  2. Navigate to the ‘Discord login reward’ section.
  3. Tap the ‘Login with Discord’ button.
  4. Return to the game without completing Discord authentication.
  5. Check the diamond balance.
Environment:
  • OS: iOS 18.4.1
  • Device: iPhone 12
Actual Result:

The user receives 40 diamonds immediately after tapping the Discord login button, even though they have not completed Discord authentication. The reward is granted without verifying whether the user has successfully logged in.

Expected Result:

The 40-diamond reward should only be granted after the user successfully completes Discord authentication. Tapping the login button without completing authentication should not trigger the reward.

Tutorial hint blocks ‘Settings’ screen while allowing user to continue gameplay

Severity:

Major

Precondition:
  1. The user has launched the game and reached a gameplay stage where tutorial hints appear.
Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Launch the game.
  2. Open the ‘Settings’ screen during gameplay.
  3. Wait for a tutorial hint to appear.
  4. Observe the tutorial hint displayed over the ‘Settings’ screen.
  5. Attempt to close the ‘Settings’ screen.
  6. Interact with the gameplay elements highlighted by the tutorial.
Environment:
  • OS: iOS 18.4.1
  • Device: iPhone 12
Actual Result:

The tutorial hint appears on top of the open ‘Settings’ screen and blocks the user from closing it. However, the user can still interact with gameplay elements and continue playing while the ‘Settings’ screen remains open.

Expected Result:

Tutorial hints should not appear over the ‘Settings’ screen or interfere with its controls. When the ‘Settings’ screen is open, gameplay interactions should be disabled so the user can close the screen normally. Tutorial interactions should resume once the ‘Settings’ screen is closed.

Checkmark overlaps earned coins amount in reward notification

Severity:

Minor

Precondition:
  1. The user has launched the game and can perform an action that triggers an earned-coins notification.
Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Launch the game.
  2. Perform an action that grants coins.
  3. Observe the earned-coins notification.
  4. Observe the checkmark and the displayed coin amount.
Environment:
  • OS: iOS 18.4.1
  • Device: iPhone 12
Actual Result:

The checkmark appears almost immediately after the reward notification is displayed and overlaps the earned-coins amount. As a result, the user does not have enough time to read how many coins were earned.

Expected Result:

The earned-coins amount should remain clearly visible long enough for the user to read it. The checkmark should not overlap or obscure the displayed reward amount.

‘Restore Purchases’ button does not provide feedback about restoration result

Severity:

Minor

Precondition:
  1. The user has launched the game and has access to the ‘Settings’ screen.
Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Launch the game.
  2. Open the ‘Settings’ screen.
  3. Tap the ‘Restore Purchases’ button.
  4. Observe the result.
Environment:
  • OS: iOS 18.4.1
  • Device: iPhone 12
Actual Result:

No confirmation, error, or informational message is displayed after tapping the Restore Purchases button. The user receives no feedback indicating whether the restoration succeeded, failed, or found no previous purchases.

Expected Result:

The game should display an appropriate message informing the user about the restoration result. If no purchases are available, a corresponding notification should be displayed. If the operation fails, the user should receive a clear error message.

Testing the game proved that its core mechanics are solid. However, there are a few bugs in some user flows. Overall, the app would benefit from more reliable authentication reward validation, improved tutorial and modal screen handling, better UI element positioning, and clearer feedback for purchase-related actions.
