Bugs Found in Caravan SandWitch for iOS
Caravan SandWitch offers an engaging exploration experience with an appealing visual style and an interesting narrative-driven gameplay. The game is fun and keeps players entertained with the story, plus a diverse collection of quests and characters.
We thoroughly enjoyed testing Caravan SandWitch as part of QAwerk’s regular bug crawl. Overall, the game is solid and performs well. However, we discovered several bugs that disrupt the experience. Check out a detailed report below.
‘Skip’ countdown repeatedly resets and prevents user from skipping story sequence
Major
A story sequence with the hold-to-skip functionality is playing.
- Launch the app.
- Progress through the game until a story sequence starts.
- Press and continuously hold the ‘Skip’ button.
- Observe the countdown indicator and attempt to skip the sequence.
OS: iOS 18.4.1
Device: iPhone 12
The skip countdown indicator flickers and repeatedly resets even when the user holds the button. As a result, the countdown never completes, preventing the user from skipping the story sequence.
The countdown should progress smoothly and continuously while the user holds down the ‘Skip’ button. Once the required hold duration is reached, the story sequence should be skipped successfully.
Incorrect ground detection allows character to perform repeated jumps in mid-air near environmental objects
Major
The player is in the gameplay area shown in the attachment.
- Launch the app.
- Navigate to the area shown in the attachment.
- Position the character near the environmental objects along the wall.
- Jump and attempt to jump again without landing on a valid surface.
- Observe the character’s movement.
OS: iOS 18.4.1
Device: iPhone 12
The character can perform additional jumps while suspended in mid-air, even without a supporting surface underneath. The game appears to incorrectly detect the character as grounded when interacting with nearby environmental objects, allowing repeated jumps without landing.
The game should correctly detect whether the character is standing on a valid surface. Jumping should not be possible while airborne unless explicitly supported by the game mechanics. Nearby objects or collision boundaries should not incorrectly trigger the grounded state.
Game screen starts flickering when character jumps near environmental objects
Minor
The player is in a location with environmental objects.
- Launch the app.
- Navigate to the indoor area shown in the attachment.
- Approach the objects located near the wall.
- Jump while standing close to them.
- Observe the screen behavior.
OS: iOS 18.4.1
Device: iPhone 12
The game screen starts flickering after the character jumps near environmental objects. Visual instability disrupts the gameplay experience and affects the consistency of environment rendering.
The game should render the environment consistently without flickering or visual glitches when the character jumps near environmental objects.
While testing the game, I found several issues affecting movement mechanics, visual stability, and story navigation. The most significant bug concerns the hold-to-skip functionality, where the countdown repeatedly resets and prevents players from skipping story sequences. I recommend fixing the story-skipping functionality and ground-detection logic with additional regression testing to improve overall gameplay stability and user experience.
