Bugs found in Heroes of the Dark for iOS
Heroes of the Dark is a mobile RPG war strategy game developed by Gameloft, a French video game publisher operating worldwide.
The game’s theme revolves around a mysterious Victorian Empire with Vampires, Werewolves, and Humans living in a shattered world and pursuing their interests. The players can form alliances, raise cross-species armies to defeat the villains, go on quests to collect rewards, and combat in PvP, PvE, and MMO battles.
Our game testing team is keen on discovering and checking new mobile games. We’ve tested MMO and RPG games before, so we thought we’d give Heroes of the Dark a try. Here are some aspects to keep in mind when building similar game experiences.
The chat window blocks the profile pop-up

- Open the Heroes of the Dark app.
- Tap the “Chat” button at the bottom left of the screen.
- Tap the “Player profile” icon => tap the “Player Profile” button.
- Press the “Message” button.
- Tap the “Player profile” icon => tap the “Player Profile” button.

Actual Result:
The “Chat” window remains on top of the player’s profile pop-up.
Expected Result:
The “Player Profile” window opens.
The area outside the bounds of the player’s name editor is clickable

Steps to Reproduce:
- Open the Heroes of the Dark app.
- Tap the “Player profile” icon.
- Tap outside the input area on the right.

The “Name” field editor opens.
Expected Result:
Clicking outside the name field does not open the “Name” field editor.
The entered text remains visible in the “Input” field after being sent

Heroes of the Dark is a great choice for fans of MMORPG strategy games, quest lovers, and PvP heroes. The game has several functional and UI bugs. A certain number of defects are concentrated in the chat area, complicating the interaction between players. I recommend performing ad-hoc and smoke testing to detect similar issues. Ad-hoc and smoke tests are easy to implement, yet they are quite effective in discovering major bugs and layout issues early on.
